Dirtside II: World War 2
I have always been meaning to get back into 1/285 World War 2 table top miniature games. Having bought the excellent rules Dirtside II by Ground Zero Games a number of years ago and played only a few times. I found an excellent article to convert the system to World War 2 by Mike Elliott. He had only included a few common vehicles and some basic conversions. We tried the rules and they turn out to be quite fun, and easy to play.
We needed more vehicles to make some interesting missions so I set about expanding the vehicle list. The first thing I noticed was the existing gun class system used, did not allow the inclusion of lower velocity guns with shorter range. So I have added the Low Velocity Kinetic Energy Cannon or LVKEC. It uses the following specs.
| Weapon Type | Close Range | Medium Range | Long Range | Example |
| LVKEC/3 | 6" | 9" | 12" | German 75mm/L24 Kwk 37 |
| LVKEC/4 | 7" | 10" | 14" | Soviet 122mm M-30 |
| LVKEC/5 | 8" | 12" | 16" | Soviet 152mm M-10 |
Chit validity is as follows:
- Close Range RED chits only.
- Medium Range GREEN chits only.
- Long Range YELLOW chits only.
- Against Infantry YELLOW chits only at any range.
- Direct fire against infantry is the same as for HVCs.
As a reminder of the existing Dirtside II: World War 2 gun with acknowledgement to Mike Elliott.
| Weapon Type | Close Range | Medium Range | Long Range | Example |
| KEC/1 | 6" | 9" | 12" | <37mm |
| KEC/2 | 8" | 12" | 16" | 50mm to 57mm |
| KEC/3 | 9" | 18" | 24" | 75mm |
| KEC/4 | 10" | 20" | 30" | 17pdr |
| KEC/5 | 12" | 24" | 36" | 88mm + |
Chit validity is as follows:
- Close Range RED and YELLOW chits only.
- Medium Range RED chits only.
- Long Range GREEN chits only.
- Against Infantry YELLOW chits only at any range.
- Direct fire against infantry is the same as for HVCs.
So with this in mind I added a large number of Eastern Front Vehicles.
