Sarah's Chili

This is Sarah's take on chili.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb lean ground beef.
  • 1 large white onion.
  • 3 celery sticks.
  • 2 green bell peppers
  • 1 can Campbells tomato soup.
  • 1 can diced tomatoes. 
  • 1 can chickpeas.
  • 1 can backed beans.
  • 1 can water ( use tomato soup can ).
  • 1 can black beans.
  • 2 cans kidney beans.
  • 2 cans sliced mushrooms.
  • 1/2 cup Heinz chili sauce.
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder.
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes ( add more if you want it hotter )

Instructions:

  1. Brown the ground beef and drain away the fat.
  2. In a large pot, add browned beef, onions, celery, tomato soup, chili sauce and water. Cook for approximately 10 minutes.
  3. Add remaining ingredients and simmer on low heat for at least 2 hours, ideally all afternoon, stir often ( uncovered ).
  4. Serve with shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. The recipe freezes well.
