Sarah's Chili
This is Sarah's take on chili.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb lean ground beef.
- 1 large white onion.
- 3 celery sticks.
- 2 green bell peppers
- 1 can Campbells tomato soup.
- 1 can diced tomatoes.
- 1 can chickpeas.
- 1 can backed beans.
- 1 can water ( use tomato soup can ).
- 1 can black beans.
- 2 cans kidney beans.
- 2 cans sliced mushrooms.
- 1/2 cup Heinz chili sauce.
- 1 1/2 tablespoons chili powder.
- 1/4 teaspoon red chili flakes ( add more if you want it hotter )
Instructions:
- Brown the ground beef and drain away the fat.
- In a large pot, add browned beef, onions, celery, tomato soup, chili sauce and water. Cook for approximately 10 minutes.
- Add remaining ingredients and simmer on low heat for at least 2 hours, ideally all afternoon, stir often ( uncovered ).
- Serve with shredded cheddar cheese.
- The recipe freezes well.
