European Christmas Market Trip
Elizabeth, myself and a friend Sharon decided to go to Europe to see the Christmas markets. Our trip started in Heidelberg Germany, where we stayed in the lovely Hotel Regina on Luisenstrase. It was within walking distance from the main train station. The room and staff were fantastic, we would defiantly recommend staying there. The old city itself was decorated with all the classic German Christmas Decorations.
The next part of our trip was a 4 day visit to Strasbourg France. We stayed at the ibis Strasbourg Centre Hotel, a clean and utilitarian hotel, with great lounge on the main floor. Where Heidelberg was quaint and reserved Strasbourg was bombastic and over the top. It is the largest Christmas Market in Europe and it shows, by day the streets were busy and by the evening they become a jungle of shoulder to shoulder tourists vying to see the sights. The city has many sights to see, including a canal cruise, that is definitely worth your time doing.
On the recommendation of Sharon, we decided to visit the city of Colmar France. A small town less than an hour from Strasbourg by train. For a small town it had beautiful Christmas Market.
We then spent 4 days in Nuremburg Germany to indulge in the largest German Christmas Market. We ended up staying with at the ibis Hotel Nurnberg Hauptbahnhof, great location, but poor customer service. The city had great restaurants and fantastic beers. The market it self was spread along multiple squares, with all types of Christmas Ornaments and food for sale.
At this point in our trip we said goodbye to Sharon as she continued her trip into Belgium. We went on to Erfurt Germany to visit my cousin for her birthday and see my uncle. They took us to see the Erfurt Christmas market as well a market in the city of Gotha Germany.
